Telegram WhatsappReality TV cooking show Culinary Class Wars is getting a second season, after its debut season was a global hit on streaming platform Netflix.

Sport-like competitions, but cooking

Netflix has confirmed the production of a second season of Culinary Class Wars, saying that its first season had been the first Korean unscripted title to rank No. 1 on the Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) list for three consecutive weeks.

It consists of 100 chefs facing off in "sports-like competitions" and challenges, with the chefs split into two groups, "white spoons" who are established elite chefs, and "black spoons", up-and-coming chefs only known by their nicknames until they make a name for themselves.

The 12-episode show's format is a multi-round contest where contestants face elimination after each round. There are various challenges, such as forming teams to develop unique restaurant concepts within a 24 hour period.

The challenges were judged by Korea's top chefs and restaurateurs, such as Ahn Sung Jae, the only three Michelin star chef in South Korea , and Piak Jong Won, veteran restaurateur and celebrity chef.

Netflix Korea's director of content Ki Hwan Yoo said they were "delighted" to announce the second season, driven by "incredible fan response" in Korea and worldwide.

Yoo said that Netflix Korea sought to expand its unscripted offerings, and looked forward to "bringing even more distinctive and exciting shows to our audience" soon.

Not fixed

The show has also seen a surge in interest in the restaurants of the participating chefs, according to the Korea Herald, with even convenience stores beginning to offer products based on creations on the show.

It also had to fend off accusations that the show's producers were fixing the results to attain certain outcomes, with the show's co-producer speaking out to deny the allegations, and stated that the production team had been hoping for results other than what had occured.

The first season's run has recently finished, and the contest was won by... well, no spoilers.
