The grieving mother of the grassroots volunteer who died in a knife attack at Clementi has come out to speak about her late son.

In an interview with Shin Min Daily News on Oct. 23, Winson Khoo's mother, still struggling with the sudden loss of her son, started sobbing uncontrollably while describing memories of her son to the reporter.

"I'm really heartbroken. The more I think of him, the sadder I feel."

A good person

41-year-old Winson Khoo had died in hospital after being stabbed by a male acquaintance at Block 311B Clementi Avenue 4 on Oct. 21.

A good son, a good husband, and a good father — this is how Khoo is remembered by his friends and family.

He was an active member of the community who regularly coordinated all kinds of events for fellow residents, friends of Khoo told Shin Min.

Khoo's mother said she doesn't live with her son, but he would make sure to visit her weekly with his wife and two sons, aged four and seven.

She said her son was very filial and had never rejected his parents' requests for anything.

She had no idea why the murder suspect bore a grudge against her son.

A relative told Shin Min that Khoo's wife is devastated, and relatives have offered to help take care of her children while she's grieving.

Remembered

A Shin Min reporter visited the crime scene and found that someone had left some orchids in remembrance of Khoo.

The reporter said the area felt quieter than usual and solemn, and many residents told the reporter they knew Khoo and were shocked by his passing.

Some told the reporter that Khoo was very passionate about helping residents and would go out of his way for them no matter how big or small the matter was — sometimes even sacrificing his time with his family to serve the community.
