Car hits jaywalking man, 72, in Chinatown
The pedestrian did not have the right of way at that time.
A 72-year-old man was hit by a car on Oct. 2 evening in Chinatown.
He was conveyed conscious to the Singapore General Hospital, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police.
The incident occurred at the Upper Cross Street and Eu Tong Sen Street junction.
The SCDF and police were alerted to the incident at about 8:15pm.
The accident involved a pedestrian, a car, and a motorcycle.
What video showed
Footage of the incident showed a white car just passing the junction as a person was crossing the pedestrian crossing at Upper Cross Street.
Vehicles on the road going straight along Upper Cross Street had the right of way at the time.
The vehicle behind the white car flashed the high beam multiple times, but the white car did not slow down or stop.
The white car then hit the pedestrian, throwing his legs into the air.
The collision was witnessed by passersby waiting at the pedestrian crossing, who appeared shocked.
A motorcycle behind the white car failed to stop in time as well.
It hit the rear of the white car.
The driver of the white car rushed out to assist the pedestrian.
Police investigations are ongoing.
