2 students injured after bus service 179 & NTU shuttle bus collide on campus
Someone screamed when one of the buses' windows shattered on impact, said a student.
Two students were conveyed to the hospital after a campus shuttle bus collided with bus service 179 at the Lee Wee Nam Library bus stop at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
In response to queries from Mothership, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident along Nanyang Drive at around 10:15 am on Oct. 22.
Pictures of the accident showed a large hole on the side of a Red Campus Rider near North Spine.
One of the buses' rearview mirrors had fallen onto the road.
Another photo posted on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu showed the floor of the bus littered with shards of broken glass.
A student from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information who wished to remain anonymous was on the bus when the accident happened.
Most of the students had just alighted at the Lee Wee Nam Library bus stop, so the bus had around half of its original number of passengers when it was about to move off, the student said.
"As the red bus was about to move off, it collided with bus 179," she added.
"I heard a scream when the glass shattered, but most were pretty calm and we all just alighted after that."
Another student, Cheryl Tan, who was on a different bus but alighted at the same stop, told Mothership that she had seen policemen and an ambulance at the scene.
She saw the police emptying the contents of a bag above a dustbin.
Two female students, both aged 20, were conveyed conscious to Ng Teng Fong hospital.
A 67-year-old male bus driver is assisting with investigations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
NTU and SMRT statements
In response to queries from Mothership, Deputy Managing Director of SMRT Buses Vincent Gay said there were no reported injuries among the passengers on bus service 179.
He said bus service 179 was stationary when the NTU bus collided with it.
All 30 passengers were safely transferred to another bus to continue their journey, he added.
An NTU spokesperson said the school is in touch with the injured students, who are receiving outpatient treatment.
The matter has also been reported to the traffic police, the spokesperson said.
