Man, 38, allegedly threatens to kill beautician ex-girlfriend, sends photo of himself 'taking MRT' over
Police officers tried to ambush him in her salon but he didn't show up.
After his Vietnamese beautician girlfriend broke up with him, a 38-year-old man in Singapore allegedly threatened to kill her at her salon in Chinatown and sent her a photo to indicate that he was taking the MRT over.
Police were subsequently called to the scene on the afternoon of Oct. 29, with others seen stationed at Chinatown MRT station.
Police confirmed with Mothership that at about 5:45pm, they received a call for assistance at 101 Upper Cross Street.

Allegedly threatened to kill her at salon
Shin Min Daily News (Shin Min) reported that the beautician in question was working at a beauty salon at People's Park Centre in Chinatown.
A friend of a salon employee surnamed Hu (transliteration) told Shin Min that she had asked him for help as her colleague had allegedly been threatened by her ex-boyfriend over text.
Once Hu viewed the chat logs between the beautician and the man, he became worried for her safety.
"The man had sent a message, threatening to come to the salon and kill her with a knife if they broke up. He also sent over a selfie and indicated he was on the way over on the MRT," Hu explained.
The photo showed him taking a Downtown Line (DTL) train that was reaching the Sixth Avenue MRT station, Shin Min reported.
This is about 12 stops, or 35 minutes away from Chinatown MRT.
Police hid in salon but man didn't show up
Immediately, Hu asked the beautician to stay in the salon and hide there while he called the police for assistance.
Within 10 minutes, police officers reached the salon and, after getting more information from the beautician, remained to accompany her.
A Shin Min reporter at the scene observed four officers hiding behind a salon curtain.
However, the man did not show up, so the police left at around 8pm.
Ex was controlling, sent harassing messages: Beautician
The beautician, Lucy, told Shin Min she had been working in Singapore for about six months.
Sometime after arriving in Singapore, she got together with her ex-boyfriend.
According to Lucy, they got along well at first, but he soon became more controlling in the relationship.
Occasionally, she would decline his requests to meet up after work, saying she was too tired and had work the next day.
But he would insist on meeting and sometimes even turned up unannounced at her residence to wait for her, Lucy said.
She added that he also used her name and photos to create accounts on TikTok, Facebook, and other social media platforms without her consent, which made her feel "very uncomfortable".
Unable to take it anymore, Lucy decided to break up with him, but he allegedly continued to harass her with calls and messages.
Man assisting in investigations for harassment
Lucy said he also sent her photos of arms with cuts on them, exposing blood and flesh, which frightened her.
"I asked him not to bother me anymore, but he threatened to retaliate and said he would come to the store with a knife to kill me," Lucy said.
The particular message has since been deleted from their chat logs.
Shin Min reported that it was understood that police went to the man's residence in Geylang to look for him.
Five police officers were also seen stationed at Chinatown MRT that afternoon.
Police told Mothership that a 38-year-old man is assisting with investigations for intentional harassment.
