The Auntie Anne’s outlet in Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will be closed for thorough disinfection and cleaning, after a worker was seen kissing a pretzel dough.

The pretzel store posted a statement on social media on Oct. 8 to address the issue.

The announcement said the staff was formerly employed in the Kuala Lumpur outlet and was terminated immediately after the incident.

The statement named the former employee.

It also said:

"At Auntie Anne's Malaysia, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of hygiene and safety for our customers and staff.

We do not condone or tolerate any actions that compromise these standards.

As part of our proactive measures, the outlet in question will be temporarily closed for thorough disinfection and cleaning.

The outlet will reopen once the disinfection process is completed and all necessary safety protocols are confirmed.

We appreciate the understanding and patience of our valued customers during this time. Rest assured, your safety and well-being are always our top priority."

It did not state when the incident occurred or how the establishment found out about the ex-staff's actions.

Responses

In response to the statement, many online commenters expressed concern about the photographed incident.

Common queries included clarifying when the incident occurred, and if the dough was eventually used to make products that were subsequently sold to customers.

Others queried about the possibility of getting a refund for purchases at the Mid Valley outlet, as well as wanting to find out more about the employee named, and why it was necessary to name her.
