S$1 bid for Commonwealth Crescent market stall, but stall didn't last due to 'lack of footfall'
Meanwhile, bids of over S$3,000 to S$6,000 have been tendered for stalls at Maxwell Food Centre.
An enterprising vendor had put in a bid of S$1 for a stall at Commonwealth Crescent Market.
However, the stall did not last, according to a fellow hawker citing the "lack of footfall" in the area as the reason, according to 8world news.
"It's quiet here and there aren't many people. It's an elderly estate," the hawker said.
"I hope more people come to this market because the goods are fresh," he added.
But it appears there is not lack of vendors willing to try.
Checks by Mothership confirmed that two S$1 bids have been placed for two neighbouring units at Commonwealth Crescent Market, 01-059 and 01-060, which have been allocated for selling poultry products.
Simultaneously, S$2 bids were also placed for the same units.
On the other hand
Meanwhile, hawkers' stalls at Maxwell Food Centre drew bids of S$3,000 to more than S$6,000.
A vendor tendered a S$3,055 bid for a unit at Jalan Besar's Berseh Food Centre, setting a record for the highest bid in the food centre.
The high bid drew concerns from other hawkers, who were sceptical that the stall would survive for long due to high operating costs.
"It's definitely not possible. We have been doing this for a long time. if you are new, it will be difficult," a hawker told 8world.
