A troop of monkeys in India allegedly inadvertently saved a six-year-old girl from being sexually assaulted.

In a report by The Times of India, the incident was said to have taken place on Sep. 19 in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

While the man escaped and is still on the loose, the ordeal reportedly remained fresh in the child's mind.

Safe at home, she related her traumatic encounter to her parents.

Her story has since made it onto various media platforms in India.

Unexpected saviours

The girl's father said the man had approached his child while she was playing outside the house.

CCTV footage broadcast on News Nation showed the man walking down an alley with the young girl.

He then turned into an opening on one side of the wall, while the girl appeared to stand hesitantly outside.

The man then reappeared and grabbed the girl's hand, leading her off camera.

He eventually lured the girl to an abandoned house, reported TOI.

There, he undressed her and attempted to rape her.

"He also threatened my child that he would kill me," her father said.

This was when an unspecified number of monkeys attacked the man, forcing him to flee the scene.

"My daughter would have been dead by now if the monkeys had not intervened," the girl's father stated.

Police investigating

The police told TOI that they had gotten wind of the incident from the girl's parents.

They added that the matter is under investigation by the authorities.

The police are currently trying to identify the suspect and bring him to justice.

As for the girl, she maintained that the monkeys had "saved her".
