The internet, with its many perks, is also where people hide behind a screen to leave awful comments.

Having had enough, Singaporean actor Chew Chor Meng took to Instagram on Sep. 27 to address the hateful trolls.

The 55-year-old wrote in Chinese, "If I had a choice, would I want myself to be sick?"

After seeing comments from individuals claiming they "lost their appetite" after seeing his "sickly face", Chew added it made him realise that society was "sick" in its own way.

Diagnosed with Kennedy's Disease in 2008

Chew was diagnosed with Kennedy's Disease, a rare condition that leads to muscular atrophy, in 2008.

The disease translates into the wasting and weakening of muscles, affecting mobility, as well as speaking and swallowing abilities.

He had openly spoken about his day-to-day struggles due to the disease, such as how he would previously attempt to hide his limp by faking a phone call in public.

His weakening muscles also meant he did not have the strength to carry his daughters since they were two to three years old.

Chew rose to fame in the 90s after several well-received roles in Mediacorp productions.

Since then, the actor has also ventured into the food industry, co-owning multiple F&B businesses such as mookata chain 888 Mookata and Thai eatery View Dee Bistro.
