Man, 27 & 3 teens, aged 14-17, arrested for stealing birds, cages & cash worth S$7,200 from Changi Road pet shop

The police arrested a 27-year-old man and three teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, for their suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

Birds, cages, and cash, amounting to about S$7,200 were allegedly stolen.

On Sep. 18, at about 3:45am, the police were alerted to a case of housebreaking and theft at a pet shop along Changi Road, according to a police news release.

The identities of the 27-year-old-man and three teenagers were established with the aid of images from police and surveillance cameras.

The four individuals were arrested on Sep. 19.

The birds and cages amounting to about S$7,110 were recovered.

The man and the two 17-year-old teenagers were scheduled to be charged in court on Sep. 21 with the offence of housebreaking and theft.

The offence carries an imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.

Police investigations are ongoing for the remaining 14-year-old teenager.

The police said the public is advised to secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks before leaving the premises unattended, even for a short while.

"Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/ or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition," the police added.
