Izz Imil, a 12-year-old boy, has made history as the youngest student accepted into Universiti Malaya in Malaysia.
Described as "cheerful and eloquent", Izz has a keen interest in mathematics, which has inspired him to pursue a degree in the subject.
Interviewed by special committee
Izz was interviewed by a special committee established by the university, and subsequently approved by its senate to enrol in the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics programme at the Faculty of Science, reported Bernama and The Star.
Located in Kuala Lumpur, Universiti Malaya is currently ranked 60th in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor Professor Noor Azuan Abu Osman said: "Given Izz Imil's young age, the university requests that all parties provide space and privacy for the student to go through the learning and adaptation process at the university."
"This is crucial to ensure he experiences a conducive growth process while successfully pursuing his studies," he added.
Higher Education Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir also met Izz at the university and later shared words of encouragement on Facebook.
He also added that Izz is "just like any other kids his age" and is "cheerful and eloquent".
