A beer lady has garnered fans and followers practically overnight after photos of her appeared on xiaohongshu and subsequently on other social media sites.

Lauded for her beauty and even compared to "Xi Shi", one of the legendary four great beauties of China, her looks have attracted customers to her workplace – a kopitiam at Block 491, Jurong West Avenue 1.

Who is she?

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Tang Xinyi (transliteration), 27, who hails from Malaysia, said that she had been working as a beer promotor for two years, and had only come to the Jurong West kopitiam eight months ago.

She has over 11,000 followers on xiaohongshu.

Since her photos went viral, she has received many messages on her social media accounts, and described her recent fame as "surprising".

Despite the spotlight, she said she has no wishes to become an influencer.

"A customer suggested that I should become a live streamer, so that I wouldn't have to work so hard. However, I don't think I'm used to being in front of a camera," she said.

Too busy

She was even worried that the shop might get overwhelmingly busy, as there was only one beer promoter.

When a Shin Min reporter visited on a Friday evening (Aug. 23), the coffee shop was packed with patrons.

More than 10 tables were filled with drinkers.

Tang said that she would hand out business cards to customers so that they can contact her to reserve seats.

"Just yesterday, I received more than 10 messages from customers who said they were coming," she said.

If the shop gets any busier, regular customers might not be able to find seats, she worried.

Hard worker

Both owner of the coffee shop said that Tang gave good service and was a hard worker.

Tang commutes between Singapore and Malaysia every day, and only has one day off per week.

"Although it is a bit hard, I like this job. I will not change my career in the name of fame," she said.
