Please do not "chope" a spot in the queue with anything apart from your own body, said the Bishan East Zone 1 Residents' Network (RN) in an Aug. 23 Facebook post.

The queue in question was for the zone's latest community fridge restock session the same day.

Under the initiative, volunteers collect unwanted food items and redistribute them to community fridges, where members of the public can procure them for free.

Over 5,000kg of fresh produce

Over 5,000kg of fresh produce comprising fruits and vegetables was distributed to four locations in that restock session, according to Fridge Restock Community SG.

However, at one fridge at the Bishan East Zone 1 Eco Hub, the queueing became a little innovative.

Photos shared by the residents' network showed a lengthy queue.

One Facebook user noted that by the time her mum had arrived at around 4pm — an hour before the start of the restock session — the queue was "already very long".

Apart from the humans though, a number of items — including what appeared to be folded plastic bags with pebbles on them — were also used to "chope" spots in the queue.

In response, the RN wrote that "only physical human queues" were accepted, and that "creative 'choping'" was not.

"All items found lying on the floor will be deemed as litter and cleared or confiscated," it added.

In a separate post on Aug. 25, the Fridge Restock Community page urged "considerate and respectful behaviour" in its food collection process.

"Understand that our volunteers are doing their best to serve everyone as efficiently as possible. Please be patient as they work to distribute food to all who need it," it added.
