Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo has made history after cinching two gold medals in the 2024 Olympics.

He is the first man and second athlete to medal in the Olympics for the Philippines.

Following his wins, Yulo has become a sensation back home, with promises of rewards like a condo, unlimited food, and even free consultations and colonoscopies for life.

Two gold medals in Olympics

Yulo clinched his first gold medal in the men’s gymnastics floor event with a final score of 15.000.

He narrowly edged out Tokyo 2020 champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel, who took silver with 14.966, while Great Britain’s Jake Jarman earned bronze with 14.933.

Yulo secured his second gold medal in the men’s gymnastics vault event with a score of 15.116.

He surpassed Armenia’s Artur Davtyan, who scored 14.966, and Britain’s Harry Hepworth, who scored 14.949.

Shower of rewards

Yulo’s victories have made him a national hero in the Philippines.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his pride on Facebook, stating:

"No words can express how proud we are of you, Caloy. You have achieved GOLD for the Philippines not once, but twice! Filipinos all over the world stood united, cheering and rooting for you."

In recognition of his achievements, Yulo will receive a reward of 10 million pesos (S$228,400), a sum promised to Olympic gold medallists from the Philippines, according to GMA Network.

Additionally, the House of Representatives has announced an extra 6 million pesos (S$137,000) in cash incentives, reported the Philstar.

Yulo will also receive a congressional medal "for his exceptional achievement and contribution to Philippine sports," House Speaker Martin Romualdez said

Megaworld, a real estate company, has promised Yulo another 3 million pesos (S$68,500) cash bonus and a three-bedroom condominium unit in McKinley Hill, one of Metro Manila’s largest developments, according to the Manila Times.

Besides the cash and housing, Yulo has been offered a lifetime supply of food and drinks from various restaurants.

Notably, a gastroenterologist has also extended an offer for free consultations and colonoscopies for life.
