Car smashes into central divider in Toa Payoh, 2nd car hits damaged railing
A 55-year-old driver is assisting with investigations.
A private-hire car smashed into a central divider in Toa Payoh on the afternoon of Jul. 17, with the wreckage causing another car to get damaged.
Police said the accident involving two cars occurred at around 5pm, along Lorong 2 Toa Payoh towards Lorong 1 Toa Payoh.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that one person sustained minor injuries as a result.
The aftermath
An eyewitness told Shin Min Daily News (Shin Min) that he was working nearby when he heard a loud bang.
Running over, he saw that a car had rammed into the road's central divider.
The driver did not seem injured, and got out of the car before the police and ambulance arrived 10 minutes later, he said.
Pictures from the accident's aftermath showed the front of a black car severely damaged from the collision.
A significant length of green railing had also been torn off or mangled from the impact.
SCDF told Mothership that they assessed one person for minor injuries.
The person declined to be sent to hospital.
Lost control of vehicle: Driver
The private-hire driver involved in the collision told Shin Min that he was heading home when the accident happened.
He claimed that while turning from Toa Payoh Central onto Toa Payoh Lorong 2, he inexplicably lost control of the vehicle and ended up hitting the divider.
"I was making the turn, so I couldn't have been going very fast. This is the first time something like this has happened in my two years as a private-hire driver," he said.
A second car involved in the accident apparently hit a part of the damaged railing, Shin Min reported.
