Olympic champion Tom Daley generated quite a bit of buzz at Tokyo this year.

The British diver, while well-known for his sport, caught the eye of fans as he was spotted knitting in the stands.

Photos of him went viral on social media platforms as he was spotted during the women's 3m springboard final on Sunday (Aug. 1).

No British divers were competing during the finals.

Sporting a Great Britain vest and a surgical mask, he was seen hard at work with his needles. Here's a photo from the official Olympics Twitter account:

When the camera had panned to him, a BBC commentator  asked: "I wonder who he's making that purple concoction for?"

The 27-year-old had won gold last Monday (July 26) in the men's 10m synchronised platform diving, together with team mate Matty Lee.

A day after the event, he had taken to his knitting Instagram account, @madewithlovebytomdaley, showing off an adorable medal case that he had knitted for himself.

He also said that learning how to knit and crochet has "helped (him) so much".

The medal case has a Union Jack on one side, and the Japanese flag on the other.

Another photo subsequently surfaced on Monday (Aug. 2). This time, he was spotted knitting a "Team GB" jumper while at the Aquatics centre.

Daley has one remaining dive left, the individual 10m platform event. The preliminaries are being held on Aug. 6, with the final taking place on Aug. 7.
