A lift technician was found at the bottom of a lift shaft in a building at 290 Orchard Road on July 17.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to a call for assistance at the location at 4:20 pm, according to a Facebook post on July 17.

Lift technician rescued

The male lift technician was at the bottom of the lift shaft when the SCDF arrived.

SCDF said that firefighters from the Central Fire Station gained access to the lift shaft by deploying a ladder from the first floor of the building.

The man was then carefully secured onto a stretcher and rescued out of the lift shaft using a hoisting system by the firefighters and rescuers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART).

Sustained injuries

The SCDF’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crew assessed and found that the lift technician had sustained injuries to the right side of his body.

In response to queries from Mothership, SCDF did not comment on how the man received his injury, nor how he ended up at the bottom of the shaft.

The man was later conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in an SCDF ambulance.
