A cockroach momentarily stole the spotlight from an Olympic hockey game for around five seconds after a cameraman focused on it rather than the match.

The cockroach has since taken the internet by storm, with many expressing their amusement at the incident.

An unexpected Olympic star

Twitter user @s6ntispam shared the clip of the cockroach's rise to stardom, which was aired on Argentine sports channel TyC Sports.

The game being shown was a women's hockey match between Argentina and Spain on July 26. The two teams are in Pool B, together with New Zealand, Australia, China, and Japan.

As the Olympic cameraman focused on a cockroach minding its own business and waddling away, the commentator remarked, "Look! There we have... a cockroach."

The clip of the cockroach, which has been viewed more than seven million times, has delighted many netizens who have chimed in with their thoughts on the new star.

Argentina team victorious

In case you're wondering how the actual game went, the Argentina team emerged victorious, beating Spain 3-0.

Argentina went on to beat China 3-2, and Japan 2-1. Their next game is against Australia on Jul. 31, the current leaders in their pool.
