Two migrant workers were recently lauded by Member of Parliament Melvin Yong for going the extra mile to help a resident recover an engagement ring that was accidentally disposed.

Sheer determination

The incident was highlighted by Yong, the Member of Parliament for Radin Mas SMC, in a Facebook post on July 17.

Yong said that a resident contacted Tanjong Pagar Town Council (TPTC) after the engagement ring was mistakenly disposed down the rubbish chute.

The town council then relayed the request to the two migrant workers who were on duty in the area, Shahin and Milon. Both of them then "sprung into action" and begin their search.

Tanjong Pagar Town Council told Mothership the couple had joined the search as well, and rubbish from the refuse chute was laid out to be combed through.

As the search for the small ring among "piles of rubbish" dragged on, the pair had to keep their cool and remain positive.

Shahin and Milon told Yong they knew how significant and important the ring was to the resident.

After "lots of sweat", the pair managed to find the misplaced ring.

Yong thanked the pair for going the extra mile on his post, which you can read here.
