K-pop dancers, your time has come.

Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) Singapore’s Hallyu Olympiad K-pop Dance Cover Competition will start accepting applications from July 15 to August 15 this year, where participants will stand to:

  • Win attractive prizes like a Samsung Galaxy S21
  • Represent Singapore in the Global Hallyu Olympiad in Korea in November 2021 (*subjected to the opening of travel between Singapore and Korea)

How it works

Currently, the Hallyu Olympiad K-pop Dance Cover Competition consists of two rounds - the preliminary round and the final round.

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, participants will have to submit a dance cover of any K-pop song (Korean versions only) online.

This submission period will be from July 15 to August 15, 11:59pm.

All participants will have to be aged 18 and above, and be either a Singaporean or a Singapore Permanent Resident.

One can join as a solo participant or as a group of up to four members, with groups having to maintain the same performers for all stages of the competition.

A change or reduction in the number of performers during the contest due to unforeseen circumstances may be permitted and subjected to approval by the organisers, as well as for The Global Hallyu Olympiad in Korea*.

After the application period, a panel of judges and KTO Singapore will be selecting the top five groups to qualify for the final round.

And on August 23, finalists will be announced via KTO Singapore’s social media channels and contacted by KTO Singapore via email.

Final Round

The final round will take place in mid to end September 2021, where finalists will have to choose from four songs (two girl groups and two boy groups - song choice will be announced by KTO Singapore at a later date) and prepare a cover of a K-pop dance.

The mode of the final round will either be offline or online, with the schedule to be announced at a later date, subject to change in accordance with prevailing government regulations and safe management measures.

In the offline mode, finalists are to compete at a venue in front of a panel of judges.

In the online mode, finalists are to proceed with an online submission.

Do note that each individual or group will have to showcase a different song choice from the one submitted during the preliminary round.

Group members must also be the same from the preliminary round.

Final winners will be announced on KTO Singapore’s social media channels and contacted by KTO Singapore via email.

Online Submission

For online submissions, all you have to do is upload your video onto your own YouTube account (make sure to set it to public) and include a caption of how you fell in love with K-pop.

One representative of the group can then submit an entry here.

Any submissions after the stipulated deadline will not be considered.

Do note that the video must not exceed five minutes and that the video resolution should be at least 720p.

The judging criteria is as follows:

  • 40 per cent Choreography and Technique
  • 30 per cent Overall Concept
