Most of the people involved in the accident at Bukit Batok Interchange on July 11 have been discharged from the hospital.

One of them is the Tower Transit bus captain who was driving the bus that crashed through a railing, and fell around 2m onto a ramp below.

He had suffered minor injuries and is currently resting at home.

Resting at home

Tower Transit Singapore (TTS) provided an update on July 14 on Facebook.

TTS's Managing Director Winston Toh and Land Transport Authority staff visited the bus captain at his home to check in on him.

They had also brought along herbal tonic, fruits, and a pair of new shoes to replace the ones he had lost during the accident.

TTS added that although some bruising on his face is visible in the photo they shared, the bus captain assured them that he is feeling better.

The transport operator revealed that immediately after the accident, the bus captain went over to his passengers to attend to them.

It was only later that he realised he was bleeding.

TTS wished him a speedy recovery, and added that they are "glad he's in good spirits" and recovering with his loved ones.

In a statement to Mothership, LTA wished the bus captains and passengers involved a speedy recovery.

It said that it takes a serious view of all incidents that involve public buses.

Tower Transit Singapore is currently assisting the Singapore police in the investigation of the accident.

LTA emphasised that safety is a key priority for them and public transport operators, and it is "ingrained in our standard operating procedures".

After the incident, all four public bus operators have increased engagements with bus captains to raise their safety awareness.

LTA also issued a safety advisory to the public bus operators to remind bus captains on the importance to drive safe and adhere to all safety drills and protocols.

What happened

The accident occurred as one bus was pulling into the interchange while the other bus was pulling out.

Previously, CCTV footage of the accident was circulated on social media, showing an SBS Transit bus captain falling from the road above onto the ramp, and narrowly avoiding being crushed by the falling bus.

The SBS Transit bus captain had been standing on the road when he was injured.

At that point in time, 14 people were conveyed to the hospital.

The bus captain driving the bus that collided into the one that fell onto the ramp was suspended, and subsequently arrested.
