Channel 8 baking competition "Creme De La Creme" came under the spotlight after its semi-finals on June 23, where a kerfuffle involving what was perceived to be a wrongful elimination arose.

One of the contestants, Ean, had mistakenly taken the mousse prepared by another contestant, Angie.

Both contestants subsequently agreed to use each other's mousse instead of remaking it, in the interest of time.

When pieces of cling wrap were eventually found in the mousse base of Angie's strawberry tarts, she was eliminated by the judges.

Viewers, however, felt that it was an "unfair" decision — to the extent that Ean was severely cyberbullied for being allowed to remain on the show.

Following the deluge of mean comments, Ean revealed on Instagram that he has cried over the incident at night.

Another excerpt of his now-unavailable post read,

"I registered myself for this competition to expose myself into learning new stuff, and gain the different experiences. But after today, I think I just made the worst decision of my life."

Spill over

Nasty comments have even made their way to Jeanette Aw's Instagram page, where they were promptly deleted.

Along with Fann Wong, Aw was one of the four judges in the episode.

The 42-year-old actress put up an Instagram Story on June 26, asking for users to "be kind".

Aw also said in an interview with Lianhe Wanbao that the episode was filmed over 12 hours, but only 45 minutes made it to the final cut.

Therefore, there were deliberations that went on behind the scenes that viewers are not aware of.

Aw added that all contestants had "good characters", and she still keeps in touch with them.

"For a show's contestant to be subject to this kind of abuse, it's quite saddening. [...] Ean didn't take the wrong mousse on purpose, it was an accident.

[...]

I've been in the industry for more than 20 years, and I'm used to having whatever I do magnified, but I feel really bad for the contestant."
