The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is investigating a case in which a woman was spotted in a video repeatedly hitting a dog with a stick.

The 30-second video, uploaded by Stomp, appears to take place on a balcony.

According to Stomp, the person who submitted the video, G, had witnessed the incident while visiting friends at VA residences, a condominium along Boon Teck Road on May 13.

Her friends had recently moved into a unit opposite the woman seen in the video.

What happened

In the video, the woman can be seen towering over the dog while repeatedly hitting it with a stick she is holding.

The dog can immediately be heard yelping and trying to run away, before being backed into a corner.

Apparently not the first time

According to Stomp, G said the incident happened "almost every other day" since her friends moved in recently.

G added that "the woman would also put the dog out when it rains, hit the dog continuously and even kick it."

In response to Stomp's queries, SPCA's executive director Dr Jaipal Singh Gill said that it is aware of the case and investigations are ongoing.

Gill added:

"It is entirely inappropriate to hit a dog and to discipline an animal physically in this manner.

"The SPCA and many other animal welfare organisations promote a humane and force-free approach to animal training and handling. Visit our recently launched website to find out more."
