National Service is said to be a rite of passage for every Singaporean son on their journey to manhood.
But one full-time National Serviceman (NSF) seemed to have lost part of himself along the way — but not in a bad way.
Graduated from SCC
In a Facebook post from May 21, Elly Zulkarnaen bin Jufri shared his NS journey after graduating from the Specialist Cadet Course (SCC) on May 17, 2021.
Elly described his NS journey as "one hell of a rollercoaster ride."After completing his vocational term in Dec. 2020, Elly promised himself that he would be a different man by the end of the SCC.
For the uninitiated, the SCC is a 22-week course consisting of:
- Foundation term (eight weeks)
- Professional term (13 weeks)
- Combined arms term (eight days)
Lost 80kg in 9 months
Since his enlistment, Elly said that he had found his way back to be a "healthier version" of himself and has shed 80kg.
Here's what he looked like then:
And what he looks like now:
He was also one of the graduates to receive the Distinguished Honour Graduate award, one of the highest achievements given.
