In view of the current Covid-19 situation, Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli has urged members of the public to avoid heading out unless necessary.

On May 13, Masagos wrote a Facebook post to urge everyone to stay at home when possible.

He expressed concern over the rising community cases, with the number of community cases on May 13 being the highest daily number of community cases since July 2020.

He said that this is "worrying" as people might have taken leave to go house visiting or engage in outdoor activities over the long weekend.

"I urge everyone to reconsider your plans given the latest development. Do try to stay at home and go out only if really necessary," Masagos said.

He also reminded those who need to head out to observe safe management measures seriously. He added that experts have chimed in and agreed with what Multi-Ministry Taskforce co-chair Lawrence Wong said in Parliament earlier this week.

"They opined that it is up to us - whether we cooperate so that we control the increasing cases or clusters or we will end up with another round of circuit breaker given the highly infectious nature of the virus," Masagos said.

In Parliament, Wong cautioned that the coming few weeks will be critical for Singapore.

"I think it's very important for us to understand that we are now on the knife's edge, and our community cases can go either way," he said.
