The Malaysian health ministry reported the highest daily number of Covid-19 cases in the country thus far on May 23, 2021.
6,976 new infections were recorded in Malaysia, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 512,091.

Highest number of cases in Selangor
The state with the highest number of cases is Selangor, with 2,235 new Covid-19 infections.
This is followed by Sarawak with 663 cases, and Johor with 549 cases.
Perlis recorded the least number of Covid-19 infections, with eight cases.

Over 6,000 cases for the fifth consecutive day
This is the fifth consecutive day that Malaysia has recorded over 6,000 Covid-19 cases in a day, according to its health ministry website.
The previous daily high was on May 20, with 6,806 cases and 59 deaths.
