Makansutra Gluttons Bay, a food court selling Singapore favourites such as sugar cane and chilli crab, will close temporarily from May 31 to June 14.

It explained in a Facebook post on May 29 that despite asking for help and receiving it, it was not enough to tide them through.

Hence, they have decided to close for the remainder of Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).

It said,

"We sought your help and we are very appreciative of your response but it's not tiding us through. It is with a heavy heart we've decided to close for the rest of this Phase 2 season till June 14th.

Thank you and see you all back for more beers, sugar cane and iced tea with BBQ wings, satay plus chilli crabs real soon. Stay safe and away from crowds."

Makansutra thanked its landlord, The Esplanade, for the rental package that has helped them through.

It added that some stalls will remain open to fulfil existing orders.

Free meals for delivery riders and the needy on May 30

The hawkers at Makansutra will be distributing free take out meals on May 30, after receiving donations from DJ Glenn Ong and Australian-based dancer Claire Chung, as well as Makansutra's founder KF Seetoh.

Drivers, delivery riders and "anyone who is in need" can claim free meals that are halal.

The initiative will take place from 3pm to 8pm on Sunday, May 30, until the packs run out.
