A lorry driver was pinned to his seat after a traffic accident after the junction of Toh Guan Road and Toh Guan Road East.

According to a Facebook post by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), it had received a call for assistance at 10.15am on May 21, for an accident involving a lorry and a van.

Emergency responders from Jurong and Clementi Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Lorry's cabin crushed inwards

SCDF said that the lorry’s cabin had been crushed inwards, pinning the driver in the seat, with both his legs severely trapped at the floor area near the accelerator and brake pedals.

The driver of the van had self-evacuated.

He was assessed by a paramedic before being conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Delicate rescue

Due to the intricacy of the rescue operation, SCDF said that rescuers from SCDF's elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) had also been dispatched on scene.

Using a slew of hydraulic rescue equipment, DART rescuers eventually managed to cut through the crushed cabin to access the trapped driver and free him.
