A man working at The Living Well, a cafe at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), took to Facebook on May 5 to share a heartwarming story.
The man, Bruce Mathieu, recounted how a young female doctor approached him on Tuesday (May 4), to thank him for his act of kindness a year ago.
Offered her coffee
According to Mathieu, she had visited the cafe last year when she was still a student in medical school.
She explained that after Mathieu had spotted her crying, he went over to offer her a cup of coffee and asked if everything was alright.
In response, the then medical student said that she was "having a very bad day".
This is what she said:
"I don't know if you remember me but i was here last year when i was still a student in medical (school). Anyway, there was once you saw me standing over there crying. You came over, gave me a cup of free coffee and asked if everything was alright. I told you i was having a very bad day."
Now a doctor
The medical student, now a doctor, decided to return a year later to thank him for the coffee.
Pointing to her name tag, she also revealed that she has since graduated and is now working as a doctor at TTSH.
Though Mathieu can't recall her name, he is confident that she will be back at the cafe soon.
His takeaway from this incident? Don't underestimate what a simple cup of coffee (and an act of kindess) can do.
