Grand-aunt appeals for help, father had shortness of breath
Lee Khai Ming, a one-time member of political party DAP, recounted the family's story via Facebook on Wednesday, May 19.
The children's relative had called Lee at 10:20pm, appealing for help, as the father had started exhibiting shortness of breath.
Sinchew reports that the father, who works as a salesperson, had tested positive for Covid-19 on May 13.
Wrote Lee:
"When I called, my heart felt so very heavy. I could hear his pain from our conversation, it was to the point where talking was difficult, and he had to catch his breath every few sentences."
Worried about his kids
Lee explained that the father, as the sole breadwinner, was worried about his kids if he was admitted to the hospital.
Lee shared that the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia), later arranged for the family of four to be transported to the hospital together.
The kids, who tested positive for the virus, are said to be asymptomatic.
Luckily, their grandfather, who had helped look after them, tested negative for the virus.
A photo of the entire family walking down the hallway of the apartment, followed by one of the kids holding hands while waiting to board the ambulance, tugged at the heartstrings of netizens.
Medical staff, fully covered in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) gear, accompanied them.
Lee shared that he later told the father that he must hang in there for the sake of his kids.
The family's house was also disinfected as a precautionary measure.
In his post, Lee wished the family a speedy recovery, and urged others who experienced breathing difficulties to immediately call 999 for emergency medical attention.
The post has since garnered over 5.2k shares, with many netizens expressing their well-wishes.
