On April 30, 2021, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that an Edgefield Secondary School (EFSS) student had tested positive for Covid-19.

Precautionary measures included quarantine and swab tests

As a precautionary measure, the school was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Students, staff and external vendors who had been in close contact with the student were subsequently placed in quarantine.

In addition, other students, staff, and external vendors of the school were required to undergo Covid-19 swab tests.

All tested negative

On May 7, 2021, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a statement that about 1,500 students, staff and external vendors at EFSS went through the mandatory Covid-19 swab test.

According to MOE, they all tested negative for Covid-19.

Those who are on Quarantine Order have also tested negative for their swab tests.

Will resume physical lessons on May 10

While waiting for its students, staff, and external vendors to complete and receive their Covid-19 test results, EFSS shifted to full home-based learning (HBL) from May 4 to May 7.

It will resume physical lessons on May 10.

MOE added in its statement: "The school will continue to monitor the well-being of all students and staff, as well as ensure the implementation of all necessary safe management measures."
