One of the four unlinked Covid-19 cases in the community announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (May 19) was Case 63443, a 24-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a basic care assistant at Alexandra Hospital.

On Thursday (May 20), Alexandra Hospital announced that visitors will not be allowed into the affected ward until further notice.

Case 63443

In a Facebook post, Alexandra Hospital stated that Case 63443 returned to work on May 17, after a 10-day local leave, and underwent staff surveillance testing that same morning.

She provides basic nursing care in one of the wards.

According to Alexandra Hospital and MOH, she was asymptomatic when she was tested for Covid-19, but developed a cough later in the day.

Her test result came back inconclusive on May 18, and she was immediately isolated. A second test was done on the same day, and her result came back positive for Covid-19 infection.

She is now being cared for in an isolation room at Alexandra Hospital and is currently well.

"She had adhered to PPE guidelines when performing her duties such as wearing the N95 mask," said the hospital.

All necessary precautionary measures have been taken

Alexandra Hospital added that they have taken all the necessary precautionary measures, including disinfecting all areas that she was in.

Contact tracing is ongoing, as is the swabbing of her close contacts.

Because of this, visitors are not allowed into the affected ward until further notice.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused," the hospital wrote.

"We will continue to support the staff. We are also updating and supporting the well-being of our patients and their families.

We will do what it takes — through strict measures and protocols — to keep all patients, visitors, and staff safe."
