Veteran Cantonese opera and TVB actress Lee Heung-kam (李香琴) has passed away on Jan. 4, 2021, at 88.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, fellow actress Sin Hung Tam confirmed the news to Hong Kong media on the same morning.

"Her (Lee's) godson Ah Wing told me that she left us at around 1am in the hospital. Ah Wing said that he visited Lee at home several days ago, but she had already lost the ability to eat. Her family sent her to the hospital after she felt unwell, but she passed away a few hours later."

Zaobao noted that Lee's health had deteriorated in December, and that her family had prepared themselves her for her passing.

Lee joined the entertainment industry at 16, and went on to star in a number of movies and TV series, such as "Moonlight Resonance" (also known as "Heart of Greed 2") and "Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre".

Lee's presence is so prominent that she is "godmother" to some of the most popular artistes today, having played their mothers/grandmothers in shows.

These artistes include Maggie Cheung, Andy Lau, Chow Yun Fat, Chen Fala, Raymond Lam, and Bosco Wong.
