If you're paranoid when you are out and about during this Covid-19 pandemic, technology might just soothe your frayed nerves.

Or at least make you feel like you are already living in 2030.

One company in Singapore has installed a holographic lift buttons module for an office building in Kallang to minimise the opportunities for people to touch surfaces that the public comes into contact with.

The holographic module allows lift passengers to press the buttons without having to touch any surfaces.

Passengers who board the lift are just required to hover a finger about 10mm to 15mm over the holographic button they want to press.

And when they do, the corresponding physical buttons in the lift will also light up.

Located in Kallang

Located in one of the six elevators in MapleTree Industrial New Hi-Tech Space, the module has been installed as a trial on Aug. 1 by First Step Elevator.

According to the company, a unit costs between S$6,000 and S$9,000, depending on the number of buttons to display.

The current module was imported form China, which has been developed for a while now.

To abide by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) regulations, the physical buttons in the lift still work, First Step Elevator said.

The company said it intends to introduce the holographic module to office buildings.
