Things are just winding down following Polling Day on July 10, and numerous candidates have taken to social media to thank their supporters, secretary-general of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) Tan Cheng Bock included.

PSP made "inroads"

In a Facebook post on July 11, Tan thanked Singaporeans, fellow PSP members, supporters, volunteers, polling and counting agents alike, for their "warm support" and sacrifices made throughout the campaign period.

Tan shared that although the result was not one that he had hoped for, the party had still made "significant inroads" into the constituencies they contested in by capturing 10 per cent of the total vote share.

PSP failed to win any of the nine constituencies they stood in, but put up a close fight at West Coast GRC by garnering 48.31 per cent of the votes.

West Coast GRC is helmed by two ministers, Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran and Minister for Social and Family Development Desmond Lee.

Tan said that having established the party's presence on the ground during this election, they could develop deeper roots in the future:

"For a young party of just over one year, I think we did well. There was hardly enough time to walk the ground before the polls, but now there is time. There is time to build relationship, to develop deep roots into the community and time to work toward our vision of a real Singapore Together."

Urged young Singaporeans to join him

In his post, Tan also urged the younger generation to join him.

"The future of Singapore is in your hands, so make a difference and come and join us, walk with us, work with us," he said.

Additionally, Tan said he hoped Singaporeans would continue to support them "to finish the work we have started".

Tan then ended off his post by congratulating the PAP for their win in West Coast, and described the fight as a "tough battle".

Tan appeared to hint that he will stick it out till the next election as well.

"It was a tough battle and both sides worked very hard. We will meet again."
