Within the Workers' Party Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), the work of running the estates is left to hundreds of individuals work behind the scenes.

Dealing with municipal issues day in, day out, involves liaising with residents, contractors and agencies.

On July 1, WP chief Pritam Singh put up a post highlighting the contributions of yet another regular folk who make the running of towns as smooth as possible.

The latest AHTC worker featured, Melvin Lim, is a relationship manager at Kaki Bukit estate in Aljunied GRC, who works with WP Member of Parliament Faisal Manap.

Pritam shared in his post that the role of a relationship manager in the AHTC is to serve as a bridging role for MPs and and town councillors to identify and address local feedback.

The role is similar to the People’s Association Resident Committee network in the ruling People's Action Party constituencies.

In Lim's role, he shared that he will do site-walks as part of his daily routine and try to interact with residents, to understand their needs better.

"They give really good feedback," Lim said.

"For example, if the ground is slippery, or if certain places are often dirty, improper disposal of trash found in certain areas, these are actually reliable sources which can help us improve the estate," Lim said.

He added that they work with stall tenants closely, often the first point of contact for any incidents.

Lim shared that they would often call him directly to give feedback, which will be assessed by him and later proposed to the MPs and town councillors.

He also said they've also been constantly maintaining and upgrading the town through revitalisation projects, based on recommendations from the ground.

Some of the revitalisation projects include market repainting works at Block 528 Bedok North Street 3, the Rejuvenate Hougang Avenue 1 Park, and cyclical painting works of HDB flats.

"The most important part is to take care of our residents' needs," Lim said.

Fifth tribute to AHTC workers

Previously, Pritam shared four videos: The first about a resident's anonymous thank you note for the estate cleaner, the second a lift officer working for AHTC who makes it his personal mission to make life convenient for residents, the third a project manager who does hands-on work on the ground, and the fourth about a property officer who is responsible for common areas shared by 2,000 to 3,000 households in the estate.

These five videos have appeared on the new Aljunied-Hougang Town Council YouTube channel.
