The sample count for Nee Soon GRC has been released.

According to the Elections Department (ELD), the People's Action Party (PAP) is leading with 61 per cent.

The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) team has garnered 39 per cent of the sample count.

The ELD has emphasised that the sample count is not the final result.

There is a margin of error of +/- four per cent. According to ELD:

"As this is a sample count, the election result could be different. Counting is still in progress. The public should wait for the announcement of the election result by the Returning Officer, Mr Tan Meng Dui, which will be broadcast ‘live’ on television."

The sample count provides an indication of the results in each constituency, which are obtained by:

  • Picking a random bundle of 100 ballot papers from each polling station.
  • Counting the 100 votes, with candidates and counting agents present.
  • Adding up the votes for each candidate or GRC team, giving more weightage to the bundles from polling stations where more votes were cast.

The final tally will be released later.
