The police have arrested two men, aged 30 and 32, for their suspected involvement in a cheating case.

According to a police news release on Saturday (Jun. 6), a 13-year-old male teenager is also assisting with investigations for his suspected involvement in the same case.

Suspects orchestrated ruse to steal phone

On Jun. 2, around 8:25 pm, police received a report from a male victim that an unknown man had snatched his handphone and fled on an e-scooter along Lorong 10 Geylang.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects are believed to have conspired to cheat the victim, a used handphone dealer, of the handphone by staging a ruse.

The 30-year-old man and the teenager had arranged to meet the victim on the pretext of wanting to buy the handphone.

As the teenager was holding onto the phone to check its condition, the 32-year-old man appeared and grabbed the phone.

Two men were identified and arrested within one day

Through investigations and with aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the three suspects.

The 30-year-old man and 32-year-old man were arrested on Jun. 2 and 3, respectively.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term for up to 10 years and a fine.
