A Singaporean man will be charged in court on June 17 for flouting circuit breaker rules and hurling abuse at a public servant after being caught not wearing a mask in public.

Threw multiple items at enforcers & scolded vulgarities

According to the police news release, the 30-year-old was approached by a Safe Distancing Ambassador (SDA) and an Enforcement Officer (EO) along on Upper Boon Keng Road on Apr. 26 as he was not wearing a mask.

However, during their interactions, the man started scolding vulgarities at the two staff.

He also threw a popsicle at the SDA, and hurled unused masks he had bought from a nearby store at the EO's face.

For not wearing a mask in public, the man will be charged for breaching regulations under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations.

For using vulgarities and throwing the popsicle at the SDA, he will be charged with intentional harassment and using criminal force.

Additionally, the man will also be charged for using abusive words against a public servant, and using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty by throwing the face masks at the EO.

The Police said they take a stern view of abusive and irresponsible behaviour when it comes to flouting safe distancing measures.

They urged members of the public to cooperate and comply with these measures, as well as instructions from SDAs and EOs.
