Malaysia's Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has issued a statement debunking a claim that Muhyiddin Yassin himself breached quarantine to fly to Singapore for medical treatment.

In a strongly worded title, "Sinister Lies from Sarawak Report about PM", the statement said that the publication in question had made allegations which were "baseless" and "malicious."

It added that Muhyiddin had "strictly adhered" to standard operating procedures and that he had not left his house, with all of his duties as Prime Minister conducted from home.

As such, the Sarawak Report "must be held accountable" for the allegations it had made.

The statement also charged the Sarawak Report carrying out a "smear campaign" against the Prime Minister.

What did the Sarawak Report say?

According to Free Malaysia Todaythe Sarawak Report published an article citing sources who stated that Muhyiddin had broken his quarantine on May 26 to fly to Singapore in a private jet.

Supposedly, Muhyiddin then stayed overnight here, to receive chemotherapy treatment for pancreatic cancer.

The statement further elaborated that with regard to Muhyiddin's health, there is no evidence of cancer or its recurrence.

Muhyiddin had been placed under 14 days of self-quarantine after an officer present at a meeting he chaired on Wednesday, May 20 tested positive for the virus.
