Among the 407 new Covid-19 cases reported on Sunday (June 14), the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced an imported case involving a Bangladeshi national as well.

This is the first imported case reported in Singapore after nearly a month. The last imported case was reported on May 11.

Required specialist medical care here

In a MOH update on June 15, it was revealed that the man had been granted a waiver of the ongoing nationwide restriction on travel entries based on medical grounds.

This restriction was imposed on all short-term visitors from Mar. 23 onwards, where such visitors are not allowed to enter or transit through Singapore.

The man had previously been under the care of a doctor at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and underwent two operations earlier in Singapore.

When he returned to his home country, however, he did not respond well to treatment there and faced medical complications.

He thus required follow-up specialist medical care in Singapore, and arrived here on June 10 for treatment. The medical treatment he is in Singapore for is unrelated to Covid-19, MOH said.

Placed on SHN upon arrival

The man was placed on Stay-Home Notice at a designated hotel upon arrival in Singapore, and was conveyed from the airport to his hotel in a dedicated vehicle.

He could only leave his designated place of residence for medical consultations and follow-up, MOH said.

The man's health declaration submitted before immigration clearance indicated that he did not have any Covid-19 symptoms, and he had not been diagnosed with or suspected to have Covid-19 infection.

Unfortunately, when he was tested for Covid-19 upon arrival in Singapore, his swab test came back positive on June 13.

MOH is currently conducting contact tracing and identified close contacts have been placed under quarantine.
