Foreign domestic workers (FDWs) must continue to stay at home during their off days, under phase one of Singapore's post-circuit breaker period, the Ministry of Manpower said in an advisory on Saturday (June 13).

However, they may go out to run errands and buy meals, and should return home immediately after, MOM said.

Firmer actions will be taken

MOM stated that it had observed some FDWs gathering at hotspots such as City Plaza, Lucky Plaza and Peninsular Plaza last weekend.

Some of them were queuing up to remit money, and some were seen gathering in groups with their friends.

The FDWs were asked not to loiter or gather in groups, and to return home immediately after they were done with their errands.

The government authorities and safe distancing ambassadors will continue to be on the ground this weekend, added MOM.

They will take firmer actions, including issuing warnings and revoking work permits of the FDWs who disregard MOM’s advisory.

Not allowed to meet friends or gather in public areas

MOM added that the FDWs are required to wear a mask when they go out and maintain a safe distance of at least one metre away from others.

They are not allowed to meet up with friends or gather in public areas.

This is to minimise contact between different households and is "in line with the rest of the community".

A similar advisory was also communicated to employers and FDWs on May 21.

Arranging an appointment to remit money

Separately, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has worked with the licensed remittance agents that operate in City Plaza, Lucky Plaza and Peninsula Plaza to serve customers, including FDWs, by appointment on weekends and public holidays.

Employers are advised to inform their FDW on the need to make an appointment if they wish to remit money at these locations.

An appointment should be obtained before leaving their residence.

FDWs who are unable to get an appointment are encouraged to use e-remittance options or visit a remittance agent at another location.
