A 65-year-old woman, known as Madam Wong, is no stranger to the meeting room where key policy decisions on Covid-19 are made.

Cleaner at Taskforce HQ

Wong, who works as a cleaner in the Taskforce HQ at the Ministry of Manpower, is entrusted with the job of keeping the place clean.

In a Facebook post by Alex Chua on Tuesday (June 16), he said he was visiting the Taskforce HQ when he walked into an empty meeting room, and noticed "a lonely figure cleaning the tables".

Chua found out Wong is a PR from Malaysia, and that she used to work as a cafeteria cleaner at Changi Airport.

When he told her that the room she was cleaning is being used by key decision makers in the Covid-19 battle, she told him in Mandarin: "Your boss always asks if I have eaten whenever I come into this room to do my work."

Wong also told Chua that she does her job to the best of her ability, but it is also important for individuals to ensure their personal hygiene.

This is what she told Chua, as shared in his Facebook post:

"I do my job to my best ability. But everyone still need to ensure their personal safety and hygiene. It is your own responsibility. So that you can continue fighting."

Previously, Chua had documented the lives and the work of frontline workers managing the infection.

He has also captured the stories of different people, including migrant workers, dormitory staff, and healthcare workers assisting with swabbing and medical care.
