Update: The customer has been found, and the refund has been given back to him. The shop has also given the man complimentary snacks and "VIP membership".
A grocery store Ang Mo Kio put out a notice to locate a man it accidentally overcharged by S$1,383.
In a case of slight accounting error, a cashier at Angel Supermart at Block 631 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 accidentally pressed the wrong tally amount.
That resulted in an error in the bill, which was supposed to be S$13.97, but the customer was charged S$1,397 on his credit card.
The store put out a notice for the man on June 1.
Here's the post:
Tan told Mothership that he has run the business for six years and has more than 15,000 members under the store's loyalty programme.
While they are still trying to check if the man is a member so that they can contact him directly, they have decided to create a public post in a bid to get in touch with the person the soonest they can.
Tan also said that he tried to call the clearing centre but "nobody answered".
Tan was told in a prior incident that they did not have the "refund service".
In the comments section, they also outlined their intention to refund the man in cash because, as they readily admitted, it was their mistake.
They also insisted that transparency was their store's motto.
"We have a very good relationship with our customers, most of them are members 🙂
And yes you are right, we just don’t feel a need to cover up
Staff has been disciplined
Staff has been punished
We give them a fair and nurturing environment to grow, our customers are usually very comfortable shopping here cause we will do what’s right"
Here's to hoping the man does not only find out about the charging error in his bill next month.
