Two men, aged 51 and 59, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of robbery with hurt.

Accused of robbery with hurt

According to a news release, the police received reports of a fight along New Upper Changi Road on May 9 at about 1:36am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 41-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his bag by two men along New Upper Changi Road.

Cash amounting to S$420 and a handphone were stolen.

According to the police, officers from Bedok Police Division were able to establish the identities of the men and arrest them within 15 hours of the report, through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from the police cameras.

The two men will be charged in court on May 11 with robbery with hurt.

The offence is punishable with imprisonment of at least five years and no more than 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane. However, as both men are above 50, they will not be caned.

According to the news release, Assistant Commissioner of Police Julius Lim, Commander of Bedok Police Division, said:

"Instead of complying with the Covid-19 circuit breaker and staying at home, the duo ignored the restrictions and committed the brazen robbery.

I am proud of the efforts of the officers who worked tirelessly and arrested the suspects swiftly."
