998 Covid-19 patients discharged, 3 out of 5 community cases are unlinked

This is the fourth day in a row that the number of discharged patients is higher than the number of new ones.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 682 new cases of Covid-19 infection as of 12pm on Sunday, May. 17, 2020.

This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 28,038, with the majority of cases continuing to be Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

998 patients were reported to have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, making it the fourth day in a row that the number of discharged patients exceeds the number of new cases.

Four Singaporeans infected

673 of the new cases are Work Permit holders residing in dormitories, while there are four new cases of Work Permit holders living outside of dormitories.

MOH announced that among the new cases reported today, four are Singaporeans and one is a work pass holder.

Of the Singaporeans, one is linked to the cluster at CDPL Tuas Dormitory, where he works, while the other three are unlinked.

There were no new imported cases today.

Of the new cases, 99 per cent are linked to known clusters, while the remaining 1 per cent are pending contact tracing.

One new cluster was announced today. 13 of the earlier confirmed cases have now been linked to form a new cluster at 9 Sungei Kadut Avenue.

Summary of confirmed cases

998 more cases of Covid-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 9,340 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

Of the 1,210 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving.

16 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

17,466 cases who have mild symptoms or who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

22 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.

Separately, nine individuals found to be have Covid-19 infection have died of causes unlinked to the virus, most recently a 50-year-old Thai national and a 31-year-old Indian national whose deaths were announced on May 12.

In the past week, between May 10 to May 16, MOH has uncovered links for 17 previously unlinked cases.
