682 new Covid-19 cases reported in S'pore, 4 are S'poreans/PRs

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 682 new cases of Covid-19 as of 12pm on Sunday, May 17.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country is now 28,038.

Among the confirmed cases, four are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents.

The majority of the cases are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

Further updates will be shared in a separate announcement from the Ministry later in the evening.

Details as of May 16

MOH announced on May 16 that 465 new cases of Covid-19 had been confirmed, the lowest number of new daily cases since May 2.

The number of new cases reported per day so far in May are as follows:

  • May 1: 932
  • May 2: 447
  • May 3: 657
  • May 4: 572
  • May 5: 631
  • May 6: 788
  • May 7: 734
  • May 8: 742
  • May 9: 753
  • May 10: 876
  • May 11: 486
  • May 12: 884
  • May 13: 675
  • May 14: 752
  • May 15: 793
  • May 16: 465

May 16 also saw the third day in a row that the number of discharged cases exceeded the number of new cases, with 1,094 patients reported to have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

MOH also announced Singapore's 22nd death that has been classified to be from complications due to Covid-19.

The deceased, a 67-year-old Singaporean man (Case 1516), had a history of ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, and hyperlipidaemia.
