Activist Jolovan Wham has posted a public apology on May 22, after receiving a letter of demand from Minister for Manpower Josephine Teo.

Teo had instructed her lawyers to issue letters of demand to two people, including Wham, on the grounds that they had made false statements accusing Teo and her husband of profiteering and corruption.

The letters asked them to withdraw their accusations, but stopped short of taking them to court.

It also required the two recipients to make a donation of S$1,000 each to the Migrant Workers’ Assistance Fund.

Wham's apology

Wham's apology was put up on Facebook at about 12:16pm on May 22.

Wham stated that his allegations were "false and completely without reservation" and that he also apologised "unreservedly" to Teo for making them.

Similarly to Donald Liew, the other recipient of Teo's letters of demand, Wham also gave an undertaking to not publish any further statements or allegations on the matter, and added that the original statement had since been removed.

However, he also did not add if he had indeed made a donation of S$1,000 to the fund.

The post on which Wham had put up his comment has since become inaccessible.

In his comment, Wham had alleged that Singapore was not corruption-free.
