One chicken rice stall owner in Toa Payoh has managed to pay it forward multiple times over this Covid-19 season.

The chicken rice stall owner, Michael Poh, then took to Facebook to share what happened.

Everyone chipped in

His business, Poh Kee Chicken Rice, located at Block 206 Toa Payoh North, recently managed to donate chicken rice bento boxes to Tan Tock Seng Hospital staff.

A regular patron had offered to bulk order chicken rice bento boxes in a bid to help out Poh, as well as to give the food to healthcare workers.

Poh agreed and offered to throw in a free egg with every set, to be paid for out of his own pocket.

He soon found his generosity being matched by others who also wanted to help.

Poh wrote in his post: "After I posted that I would contribute an egg for every single pack of chicken rice bought from me for donation to society, a few of my friends offered to contribute to the cause too."

Gave more meat

With such offers coming in, Poh decided to "upgrade" the sets with vegetables of a better grade and throwing in cherry tomatoes for good measure.

He wrote: "I can onli afford to shave my profits and give my best in what i do best, cooking."

"Hope that will make a fuller and better meal to whoever is on the receiving end."

Poh subsequently wrote on Facebook that he prepared another 100 chicken rice bento boxes for Singapore General Hospital on May 15, a donation which he revealed initially to Stomp.

These are paid for by other donors.

Poh clarified that he still charges the minimal cost for the bento sets, and that he is still making a small profit.

This is despite including a free egg, more meat and better vegetables.

Update: This article has been updated to include Poh's Facebook post on giving to Singapore General Hospital.
