On Apr. 6, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced additional measures to support businesses, workers and households through the Covid-19 outbreak.

The new "Solidarity Budget" follows the Unity Budget announced on Feb 18 and the Resilience Budget on Mar 26.

During his address, Heng announced wage subsidies and payouts for Singaporeans.

This includes a 75 per cent subsidy on the first S$4,600 of gross monthly wages for all local employees.

A S$600 payout for all adult Singaporeans, as well as a scheme for self-employed Singaporeans.

Health is a priority

During his speech, Heng said a few words in Mandarin outlining the key announcements.

"Our imminent task is to protect the health of our people," he said.

Heng stressed the importance of strictly observing precautionary measures.

He also said that the priority should be the health of Singaporeans.

He explained, "Money lost can be earned again. But if we lose our health or even our lives, what's left is only regret."

Acknowledging that it will be a difficult time for businesses and enterprises, he expressed his hopes that this new set of measures will provide some relief.
